Grass is always greener
Lawn Tips
STARTING A NEW LAWN
1. If you must rebuild a large area of your existing lawn or start a totally new lawn you must prepare the seed bed with a rotary tiller. Prepare the soil to a depth of about 6". If the soil is compacted, mix in peat moss to keep it loose.
2. Prepare the seed bed by raking it, removing all stones and sticks, and breaking up all dirt clods
3. Apply starter fertilizer and lime according to soil conditions
4. Reseed the area, using the proper seed, with a mechanical seed spreader. Use of a lawn roller embeds the seeds into the soil and prevents wind and water erosion.
5. Lightly sprinkle the reseeded area two or three times a day if the reseeding is done in hot weather. Repeat this daily watering until the new seedlings are about 1" tall. After the new grass has reached this height, water it about once each week until it's ready for the first mowing.
